AN IMPROVEMENT scheme to revamp the Lickey Hills Country Park is being proposed by Birmingham City Council and they want residents’ views on the plans.
The council has launched a consultation alongside plans to enhance the park’s play areas and improve some of its habitats.
Improvements look to replace the existing play area which is ‘no longer fit for purpose’ as its location suffers from regular flooding and poor accessibility.
Alongside the new all-age inclusive play area to replace the current one near the visitor centre, the plans have also mooted a new wildlife and wetland area.
Possible future plans such as the outdoor gym space and further play areas form part of potential future plans which would only be an option ‘as and when funding is available’.
The new fenced play area would serve 60 users at any one time and would be suitable for children aged from two to 14. As well as all of the usual play park features, it would weave in some inclusive apparatus to give greater access to all children.
Other play areas and a dedicated outdoor gym space including calisthenics apparatus are also being put forward as possibilities for the park’s revamp.
A new double zip-wire also features as a possibility within the plans alongside new seating areas with safety surfacing nearby.
Detailed designs of the play area will be finalised following public responses.
Consultation launched
The consultation from now until March 14 will help the council to understand and assess whether the proposals are in line with visitors’ needs and aspirations.
Construction is hoped to be under way in the summer with a view to completion by autumn 2025.
A Birmingham City Council spokesperson said: “We would like to have your input as you are the users of the park and you know first hand what improvements you would like to see.
“We would like to design a space with your views in mind so you can enjoy the park as much as possible.”
