CONSULTATION - Have your say on former Bromsgrove Market Hall and BirdBox site

Bromsgrove Editorial 23rd Feb, 2023   0

RESIDENTS are being urged to have their say on the former Bromsgrove Market Hall site and view proposed plans at two public consultations in March.

The events will take place from 10am to 1pm on Saturday, March 4, at the BirdBox site and between 4pm and 7pm on Monday, March 6, at Bromsgrove Library.

The proposals include a landmark building with flexible office space, business start-up and co-working spaces and restaurants and bars on the ground floor.

There is also a pavilion proposed for hosting exhibitions, cultural and community events, along with a new public space.

At the consultations, attendees will also be able to speak to officers and consultants working on the project, give their opinions, raise any concerns, make suggestions for improvement and discuss how the project will help Bromsgrove with ‘levelling-up’.

Views are being sought ahead of the council seeking planning permission to start the next phase of physical development.

Bromsgrove District Council leader, Coun Karen May, said: “We are extremely excited to have reached this milestone in the project.

“Although lots of work has taken place in the background up to now, we have finally reached the point where we can share these fantastic proposals with the public.

“We want to take users of the BirdBox, businesses and visitors, on this journey with us.”

She urged everyone to make the most of the opportunity by being involved in the consultation process.

“Should we be successful in getting planning approval after these consultations, it will be the start of lots of exciting, visible changes on the site and the next significant steps towards creating a new town centre destination to improve the viability and vitality of Bromsgrove.”

The proposed plans will be subject to both cabinet and planning approval.

Works to regenerate this important town centre site are funded through a £14.5million grant secured by the council from the Government’s Levelling-Up Fund.

The successful Levelling Up Fund bid put forward proposals to create a vibrant new commercial and cultural hub for the town centre.

This project would deliver up to 2,500sq m of flexible commercial/cultural space which, the council says, would encourages new businesses and visitors to the area and builds on the BirdBox’s success.

The development would also be built to the highest BREEAM ‘very good’ rating sustainability standard.

People and businesses are urged to continue to use the current BirdBox during the consultation process for the new-look site.

Those wanting to hire BirdBox in the coming months should email the council’s events team at [email protected] or call 01527 534030.
