CONSERVATIVE candidate Kyle Daisley claimed the vacant Bromsgrove South seat on Worcestershire County Council last night, in what was an abysmal by-election for Labour.

Daisley (769) earned more than twice as many votes as Labour rival Bren Henderson (351).

Independent candidate Rachel Jenkins picked up 436 votes, while Liberal Democrats’ Joshua Robinson came in third with 357.

Daisley was endorsed by Bromsgrove MP Sajid Javid throughout his campaign.

Following the result the Chancellor said: “Well deserved win for Kyle Daisley in Bromsgrove South.

“Huge Conservative swing in former Labour stronghold.

“Labour pushed into fourth position, looking forward to working with you Kyle.”

Daisley, aged 22, claimed the seat of longstanding Labour councillor Chirs Bloore who last month revealed he was moving to Toronto.

Bloore, who polled a 250-vote majority in 2017, had been in the role for more than six years.

Daisley said: “I’m in love with our area and I want to be a positive voice for all of us.

“I want to build on what’s here and protect what we have.

“Most of all, I want all residents to live in an area that values them.

“I will ensure I am a voice for all people in our area.

“I want to work with our schools, parish, district councils and charities to get the best for our communities.”

FULL RESULTS:

  • CON (Daisley): 769 40.2% (-0.3)
  • IND (Jenkins): 436 22.8% (+22.8)
  • LDEM (Robinson): 357 18.7% (+13.7)
  • LAB (Henderson): 351 18.3% (-32.2)

Conservative GAIN from Labour.
