Concerns over more dumping at Bromsgrove's Marlbrook Tip

Bromsgrove Editorial 17th Feb, 2021   0

RESIDENTS living near the Marlbrook Tip have expressed concerns about rubbish dumping at the site after they were assured it had stopped.

The owners were prevented of tipping there because of over-filling and a lack of information on what was being disposed there and how much.

But Coun Peter McDonald has now been approached by people living in the area who say it has restarted.

“It would seem the tipping is being carried out illegally and furthermore breaking Covid restrictions.

“I have asked Bromsgrove District Council to take whatever action is required to stop the tipping immediately and report them to the police for breaching Coronavirus restrictions.”

Over the years thousands of tonnes above the permitted amount were deposited at Marlbrook Tip, changing the landscape and potentially leading to land, water and air pollution.

Due to the size of the pool at Marlbrook Tip it is classified as a reservoir and the site’s operator must comply with the Reservoirs Act 1975, legislation enforced by the Environment Agency.

A Bromsgrove District Council spokesperson said: “We are in contact with the landowner and are keeping Coun Peter McDonald updated.”
