A CARE home in Cofton has recently hosted its very own Pride event as June marks the beginning of a month-long celebration of the contributions of the LGBTQ community.
While thousands of people descended on Birmingham city centre for its famous Pride event, local care home residents at Cofton Park Manor on Lickey Road had their very own celebrations.
Residents joined family and friends for their Pride event, offering a chance to celebrate our differences. The Birmingham Pride Festival 2025 is a chance for the LGBTQ community and its allies to come together in pride, remembrance and protest in town.
Cofton Park Manor Home Manager Kerry Hill said: “We’ve had a stunning time here at Cofton Park Manor.
“We consider our home to be one that fosters the inclusivity that Age UK’s ‘Safe to be me’ initiative acknowledges.
“It is important to us to celebrate Pride and support everything it stands for. We’ve had a great party this afternoon.
“The Birmingham Pride event is a huge affair, and we’re happy to support it by celebrating from our own home.”
Just like in the city centre, residents wore a colourful array of costumes, giving the event a true carnival-like flavour with upbeat music performed by local entertainer Debbie Miles.
Cofton Park Manor resident Kathleen Postings, aged 91, said: “My granddaughter is gay, I think it’s a good thing to celebrate Pride. I think she has now found her perfect partner; love is love.”
Fellow resident Molly Giles, aged 88, added: “My grandson is gay, and I am so proud of who he is.”
Birmingham Pride launched in 1997 as a free community event and, in recent years, has grown into one of the city’s largest festivals, with a ticketed music programme and a free parade.
