Changes made to Lickey Hills steps to stop walkers slipping

WALKERS in the Lickey Hills can better trust their footing thanks to the installation of non slip strips on various wooden bridges around the park.

The bridges, which can be slippery when wet, will be fitted with a resin bonded non slip material making them safer to walk on.

Funded by a generous legacy left to the Lickey Hills Society by late member, John Murdoch, the strips will fulfill his request to improve walking in the country park especially for the elderly and those with mobility issues.

The non slip material, which cost £2,700, will be yellow or buff coloured and will be fitted to ten bridges around the country park, identified by park rangers as the most in need.

A Lickey Hills Society spokesperson said: “Some years ago, member Mr John Murdoch left a generous legacy to the Society.

“One of the recommendations in the legacy was to use some of the funds to improve walking in the Country Park, especially for the elderly and those with mobility issues.

“We feel that Mr Murdoch would be pleased that a proportion of his legacy is being used in this way.”
