YOUNG people from Chadsgrove School and College were in sporty mood when they welcomed inspirational Paralympian boccia triple gold medallist and reigning world champion David Smith MBE.

He has recently returned from the Tokyo games where he became the first player to successfully defend an individual boccia title.

He was given a rapturous reception from the flag-waving students and staff at the Catshill school and college.

Last year David met students over Zoom whilst the country was in national lockdown and it was still unclear whether the Olympic and Paralympic games could even take place.

David took along his gold medal and spoke about his career, answering students’ questions and gave a boccia demonstration where he shared top tips with aspiring players/

Headteacher and principal Deb Rattley said: “David is an inspirational figure.

“He displays such drive and determination and is a great example of what we hope to instil in all students here at Chadsgrove.

“We are thrilled to have welcomed David here and we know that our students will always remember his motivational words and enthusiasm.”
