STAFF and students at North Bromsgrove High School are celebrating after being awarded the prestigious ‘Music Mark’ award.

North was nominated to become a Music Mark school by Severn Arts.

The accolade recognises the commitment to schools providing high quality music education to all children and young people and being dedicated to delivering an exciting, inclusive curriculum.

Students at North have the opportunity to learn to sing, play an instrument, compose and critically listen all the way through to year 13.

The school is working with other Music Mark schools to develop character education, including boosting young people’s social development, teamwork skills, life skills, positive mental health and encouraging creativity and critical engagement.

The school’s new Head of Music is the talented musician, Miss Chater, who is a member of the military band The Warwickshire Fusiliers as a trumpeter and regularly plays with The Film Orchestra. She is also a frequent talent in local Worcestershire wind bands and orchestras.

Miss Chater – a grade 8 in trumpet, voice, electronic keyboard and music theory, with 16 years of experience in the classroom – is delighted with the school’s Music Mark award.

She added: “I am excited that I have brought my experience of music technology to the school and have seen the biggest expansion and uptake of peripatetic lessons in its history.”
