THE TEAM at Butcher’s Block in Bromsgrove High Street are celebrating being named the ‘Best Independent’ at the Birmingham Awards.

Wife-and-wife team Michelle and Lilith Holsey-Sheppard attended the special ceremony at Villa Park to collect their accolade last Saturday.

There was tough competition in the Best Independent category, which included The Clean Kilo, Birmingham Hospice vintage shop and fourth-generation business Stirchley Wines.

This year, there were three parts to the judging process including a public vote and evidence of the impact businesses have in their area.

This is the second year Butcher’s Block has scooped the top independent business title.

Lilith said: “We were absolutely blown away to scoop the award. To be acknowledged in the second city as the top independent, considering the competition is an incredibly proud moment.

“We want to thank everyone who voted for us and to Ladies Fightting Breast Cancer who was also there, cheering us on.”

The duo are finalists in two more awards, again in the best ‘Independent Retailer’ and ‘Foodservice’ categories at this years Women In Meat Awards. The winners will be revealed at a London ceremony on November 18.
