Catshill and North Marlbrook children set up junior council

Bromsgrove Editorial 13th Dec, 2022   0

YOUNG people from Catshill and North Marlbrook have set up their own youth council so they can have their own say on issues affecting them in the area.

The Catshill and North Marlbrook Junior Councillors group was set up after Clerk Carol Blake and Coun Brett Laniosh visited Catshill Middle School.

After the visit, the pupils were keen to get more involved, and with the help and support of assistant headteacher Danielle McCrory, the first youth council was set up.

The group – made up of pupils from across all year groups – is there to share their and other young people’s likes and dislikes about Catshill and what they would like to see happen in the future.

So far, the group has been distributing hedgehog gates for gardens and wants to install a new skate park and reduce litter in the area.

As well as an opportunity to feedback directly to the Parish Council, termly meetings take place as part of the school Life Skills Programme.

The Junior Councillors were invited to attend a Full Parish Council meeting in December and presented to the Parish Councillors.

This will be an on-going theme to understand more about young people’s opinions and views on their community and what can be done to make it a safer and more improved area for all.
