‘Call time on knife crime’ say Bromsgrove police

BROMSGROVE police want to ‘call time on knife crime’ for national Anti Knife Crime Week.

The week long campaign, running from today (Monday, May 15) to Sunday, May 21, will see Bromsgrove Police raise awareness in the community, particularly with children and young people, about the dangers of carrying a knife.

Anti Knife Crime Week is supported by Operation Sceptre, a national police campaign aimed at ensuring residents’ safety from knife crime in communities around the country.

Police in Bromsgrove are also encouraging people to hand in unwanted knives to prevent them getting into the wrong hands and being used in crime.

Knife surrender bins will be placed at key locations with Safer Neighbourhood Team officers on hand to highlight the steps being taken to prevent people from carrying a knife in public.

Officers will collaborate with partner agencies to carry out community sweeps to clear outdoor areas of discarded sharp objects that could potentially be used as weapons.

Knife surrender bins will be located at Birdbox, Bromsgrove from 10am to midday on Monday, May, and at King George Park, Sidemoor from 2pm to 4pm next Sunday, May 21.

Meanwhile, police in Rubery held a knife crime talk with local cadets giving them a chance to learn about the valuable policing work in their area.

Rubery Troop Army Cadets were educated on knife crime, given a chance to try on police uniforms and got to check out what it felt like to be locked in the cage of a police van when they were joined by Aston and Rubery’s Safer Neighbourhood Team.

The Rubery Troop Army Cadets asked the West Mercia Police officers lots of inquisitive and pressing questions and enjoyed sporting the police attire.
