Call for residents to attend council meeting amidst final Bromsgrove Sports Hall decision

Bromsgrove Editorial 22nd Jul, 2018   0

A FINAL decision on having a sports hall on the site of Bromsgrove Sports and Leisure Centre will be made at a meeting of the full council at 6pm on Tuesday, July 24, at Parkside.

At the last meeting it was decided to delay the demolition of the hall because it was believed some of the figures surrounding how much it would cost and generate were incorrect.

After much debate Coun Peter Whittaker agreed there was ‘some ambiguity in the report’ and gave the hall a stay of execution for four weeks and an idea was mooted for the authority to find a third party to run a sports hall on the site.

Campaigner Nigel Perfett, who uses the sports hall, contacted The Standard this week to urge people to attend the meeting.

He said: “The sports hall is only 29 years old – not as old as the Dolphin Centre was – and is perfectly good to use.

“All it would probably need is new lighting and a new floor which would not cost anywhere near the figures given.

“There is nowhere else you could go in the town for table tennis, badminton, basketball and cricket so this hall is much-needed for the residents.”
