A TROOP of Bromsgrove cadets have honoured those who made the ultimate sacrifice by laying wreaths on graves in the lead up to Remembrance Day.
Last Saturday (November 2), 18 youngsters laid poppy wreaths on the graves of local fallen service personnel at St John the Baptist Church in Bromsgrove.
During the event, the Bromsgrove troop of Hereford and Worcester Army Cadet Force (ACF) were given a tour of the cemetery and learnt some history of its inhabitants.
The Reverend Raymond Khan, who ministers at St John’s and is a Padre for Hereford & Worcester ACF in his spare time, conducted a short service in the cemetery, before playing The Last Post on his bugle.
This event was kindly supported by town crier Mr Kevin Ward, who formally announced the service to the town and accompanied cadets around the site.
Staff sergeant instructor Sarah Hunt, detachment commander of Bromsgrove Troop, said she wants Bromsgrove locals to know about the role cadets play in local remembrance activities.
“In my day job as a care assistant I get a lot of housebound clients who tell me they have no idea our local cadets do such a brilliant job,” she said.
“Running these events allows young people to connect with the past, but it also allows older citizens to see the contributions made by younger people to The Festival of Remembrance.”
“I’d like to say a huge thank you to Padre Khan and Mr Ward for giving up their time to support us.”
“We have been doing this activity for a few years now. I’d like to ensure we can continue to do so in future.”
On Sunday (November 10) Bromsgrove Troop will be among hundreds of Army Cadet Force detachments up and down the UK participating in local Remembrance Parades.
Bromsgrove’s Remembrance Parade will commence at 10:20am at the top end of The High Street on Sunday (November 10)
Armistice Day is next Monday (November 11).
