IT WAS celebration time for the Burcot Woodturners earlier this month as it marked 25 years of being affiliated with the Association of Woodturners of Great Britain (AWGB).
A special celebration evening was attended by over 50 members and guests on April 6, including representatives from the AWGB.
During the meeting members had the use of a club lathe and the club pole lathe to practice their turning skills on and learn new techniques.
Members could also showcase their work and there was also a slideshow of photographs taken throughout the club’s history that ran throughout the evening.
And there was a technical competition as well as a tools sale and a club raffle.
The club was formed by professional woodturner Richard Barnes in 1997 at Burcot Forge and it was officially affiliated with the AWGB the following April.
Shortly after, the woodturners moved to Burcot Village Hall, where they’ve been ever since.
Club President John Smith said the celebration evening was a fantastic way for the club to mark its 25th anniversary.
He added he was proud the club was going from strength to strength, with more new members and a new website along with social media pages.
The club welcomes anyone with an interest in woodturning to their meetings, which take place at Burcot Village Hall at 7.15pm on the first Thursday of every month.
