BROMSGROVE’S St John’s Church will open between 6pm and 7pm on Sunday, October 10, for those who have experienced the loss of a baby or child.

The time – during Baby Loss Awareness Week – will provide an opportunity for people to reflect, remember and name their child in the beauty of the historic church.

St John’s Church vicar Rev Ray Khan said: “In the past this simple service has brought comfort to many couples and families.

“I can remember a mother who was able for the first time to grieve and name the baby she lost over 20 years ago.

“We need times when together we remember our loss and that we travel with others on that journey.

“I hope this space can provide that for parents, grandparents, brothers and sisters”

There will be a space where people can go, sit and remember, music and a chance for people to place the name of their baby on the butterfly tree and light a candle.

The church will be open for an hour and people are free to come and go as they wish.
