A WOMAN and ‘local legend’ has shared her story as she becomes the first ever resident at Mount Croft Care Home since it opened in February this year, writes Mia Whitehouse.
Joyce Elliot was born and raised in Bromsgrove during the 1930s and has deep roots in the community.
She dedicated her youth to working at Brighton Shoe Shop on Bromsgrove High Street where she left an everlasting impression on customers, before going on to become a head waitress who was adored for her outstanding service.
By 1949 she had met Maurice, who became her husband within six months. The pair went on to have two wonderful children, Sally and Peter.
Joyce also faced some challenges, losing Maurice at a young age being one of the worst for her.
She later went to work at Westmead Hotel, where fate introduced her to the owner, James, who she shared some amazing experiences of love, loss and travel with before he too unexpectedly passed away.
With her strong desire to be close to family, she moved back to her hometown, Bromsgrove, where she is now starting her joyful new chapter as a resident at Mount Croft.
Joyce is excited for shopping excursions and meeting new neighbours in her new home and cannot wait to settle in.
