A BROMSGROVE butcher has won a prestigious national award.
Michelle Holsey from Butcher’s Block on the High Street scooped the Best Independent Retailer at the annual Women In Meat Industry Awards.
The news was announced during a ceremony at the Royal Garden Hotel in London and Michelle’s partner Lilith accompanied her to the black tie event.
There were 12 categories in total and by claiming the Independent Retailer crown, Michelle managed to beat other women from as far away as Scotland as well as two premises within Worcester and the West Midlands.
Michelle said: “We looked back over the criteria and it really did come down to public votes and judging by how many people popped in to tell me they’d voted, it was clear I had a lot of the town behind me.
“It’s still blowing my mind with all the well wishers that are coming in.”
The awards were hosted by celebrity chef Rachel Allen and the category sponsor from Danish UK with both people handing Michelle her award.
All finalists were entered in for ‘Businesswoman of the Year’ where Michelle was just pipped to the post!
Michelle added: “It was amazing to be in a room of like minded women and I’m thrilled to be walking away with one award so not winning the second doesn’t matter.”
