Bromsgrove's Labour leader calling for cross-party support on warm spaces motion

BROMSGROVE District Council’s Labour leader is calling on faith and community groups to set up warm welcome spaces as cold weather sweeps the nation.

Labour’s Peter McDonald will call for cross-party support on the motion which will offer respite for families and residents who are struggling with energy bills this winter.

The motion will be brought forward at the next full meeting of the council on Wednesday, January 24.

Councillor McDonald said: “Charities have warned that many households are struggling to pay for their energy, with more than one million of Britain’s most vulnerable adults living in ‘Dickensian’ cold and damp homes this winter.

“Struggling households are facing an assault from all sides. Energy bills are going up just as winter bites hard, Christmas debts have to be paid off and the ongoing wider cost-of-living crisis continues into another.

“In the face of the Tory cost of living crisis, I will be calling for the Council to work with faith and community groups to set up Warm Welcome Spaces across the District.

“Dedicated Warm Spaces are being created all over the country, they are places where residents can spend time to keep warm over the winter months. I am hopeful the motion will receive cross-party support and help those in need.”
