Bromsgrove's High Street Post Office in TG Jones is set to close

Tristan Harris 16th Feb, 2026   0

BROMSGROVE MP Bradley Thomas has called for a High Street Post Office to remain in the town after it was announced the branch in TG Jones (formerly WH Smith) would be shutting.

Mr Thomas has responded to an announcement by Royal Mail that the counter would be closing on June 6.

In a letter, seen by the Standard, the Post Office said the decision had been taken ‘following the resignation of the retail partner and the withdrawal of the premises for Post Office use’.

The Post Office went on to say: “The provision of a Post Office service to our customers in the local community is important to us, and we will continue to work hard to restore services in the area as soon as possible.

“We would welcome any applications from potential retail partners interested in running a branch locally on our behalf.”

It added the vacancy was currently being advertised on its website: runapostoffice.co.uk and applications would be carefully considered.

“If you are aware of any interested parties, please do share the link with them.”

Anyone with any questions is asked to email: [email protected] or postofficeviews.co.uk

Hoping to reverse the decision

Mr Thomas has launched a petition, calling on TG Jones to reverse its decision and enable the Post Office counter to stay.

He said: “This is yet another blow to our High Street.

“The Post Office is a vital community service which is used by local residents and businesses.

“TG Jones have got this wrong. They shouldn’t be kicking out the Post Office, and I urge them to reconsider their decision and allow the Post Office to stay.

“I’m also urging residents to make their voices heard by signing my petition to save Bromsgrove Post Office.

“We must save this vital community service. Let’s show TG Jones just how wrong their decision is.

“Failing a reversal in this decision, I stand ready to work with the Post Office to find an alternative location in Bromsgrove town centre.

“We need a Post Office in the town centre and that’s what I’ll be fighting for.”

The Standard has contacted TG Jones for a response and is awaiting reply.
