BROMSGROVE’S David Lloyd Club is holding a Mental Health Awareness Day to raise fund for the MIND charity.

The event on Thursday, March 15, has been organised by local authors Henriette Lang and Stu Baker to help remove the stigma of mental illness.

The day will also provide useful advice and strategies for coping with mental illness and to give people an opportunity to take part in a variety of classes aimed at improving mental wellbeing.

Henriette and Stu are strong advocates of mental health, each having their own personal experiences of living with depression and mental illness.

Their collaborative book, ‘The Mindset Triangle Book’, is scheduled for release in May and following extensive research whilst writing the book they decided to organise the event.

Activities available on the day will include meditation classes run by life coach and therapist Alicia Benbow, mindfulness and wake up yoga with Lisa Dawn, a relaxing music class for pre-school children with Vicky Taramasco from Rhythm Time, advice on reducing exam stress for students aged 14 and above and a talk on developing a healthier mindset, delivered by Stu Baker.

There will be a questions and answers session at the end of the event.

Jenny Dalloway, head of mental health commissioning for Worcestershire, and Helen Jones, chairman of Bromsgrove District Council are also supporting the event and will be available to talk to during the day.

Laura Wright, general manager of David Lloyd Clubs Bromsgrove said: “We are really proud to be hosting this awareness day in aid of MIND. David Lloyd Clubs are continuously encouraging members to lead an active lifestyle and one huge advantage of exercise is that it helps to improve your mental health.”

Henriette added: “Stu and I are passionately committed to helping people better understand issues surrounding mental illness and how a healthier lifestyle can result in a heathier mindset.

“We are very grateful to Laura Wright for letting us hold the event at the Club. We would also like to say a big thank you to everyone who has volunteered their time and skills to deliver a rich and varied programme of events and activities throughout the day.”
