Bromsgrove's Burcot Hall Hospital helping clear surgical backlog caused by pandemic

BURCOT Hall Hospital has extended its partnership with Worcester Acute Hospitals NHS Trust to help clear surgical backlog built up as a result of the pandemic.

The Bromsgrove hospital – part of Transform Hospital Group – is set to treat up to 30 patients per week, performing a range of internal surgeries over a six-month period.

It will now carry out optic nerve transection (ONT) procedures, transnasal oesophagoscopy (TNO) and vascular surgeries.

Upper and lower GI and ENT procedures will also take place at the Stoney Lane hospital.

The agreement follows a wider move within healthcare to provide integrated, localised services using public-independent partnerships to ease pressure on the NHS.

At the beginning of the pandemic Transform Hospital Group – which ordinarily specialises in bariatric, cosmetic surgery and medical aesthetics – completely overhauled its entire clinical network to provide facilities and staff on a not-for-profit basis to the NHS.

Tony Veverka, CEO of Transform Hospital Group, said: “The NHS has been under immense pressure as a result of the ongoing pandemic partnerships like this will allow patients to undergo procedures that may have been paused.

“Our teams at Burcot Hall will make a significant difference to NHS waiting lists and to the lives of each individual cared for by our experienced surgeons and clinicians.”
