Bromsgrove's Brew 61 reveals the winning name for its Queen's Platinum Jubilee ale

JUDGES have chosen the name of a new beer brewed in Bromsgrove to celebrate The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee after a tough competition.

In early March, Brew 61 decided to create a best bitter to mark Her Majesty’s 70 years on the throne which will be celebrated next month.

And after many submissions, brewery owner Tim Dunkley has selected ‘Don’t Hop Me Now’ based on the classic Queen hit.

It was the brainchild of Scott Mellor who has won a mixed crate of Brew 61 beers as well as six bottles of the 4 per cent abv Jubilee brew.

The ale has been brewed with traditional, locally sourced hops including Fuggles and Bramling Cross.

The new limited-edition beer officially launched in April and is available in 500ml bottles for the public to buy, and in casks for sale to the hospitality trade.

The bottles feature a Union Flag cap and silver foiled label.

A total of ten per cent of sales will be donated to Dodford Children’s Farm, which offers holidays and short breaks for disadvantaged or disabled young visitors.

Mr Dunkley said: “Don’t Hop Me Now celebrates the extraordinary 70 years reign of Queen Elizabeth II.

“We hope local people will enjoy this commemorative brew, raising a glass to toast Her Majesty’s Jubilee.

“It’s a great tasting ale and it’s helping to support an important local charity.”

Brew 61 plans to send some of the bottled beer to The Queen for her and her staff to enjoy and hopes it receives the royal seal of approval!
