A BROMGSROVE based charity supporting young people has been awarded a significant chunk of funding from the National Lottery Community Fund.

The Basement Project, who were awarded the funding in December, hope it will boost their work in providing stability and guidance to young people aged 25 and under through drop in centres and personal support in homes and communities.

The Bromsgrove charity entered into conversations with the National Lottery Community Fund at the start of 2022, welcoming representatives from the fund to their head offices to show how funding would help make a difference to the live of young people.

In December of last year, The Basement Project learned of their successful funding bid, which they hope will bolster their ability to deliver a five year strategy kicking off in 2023.

Jerry Robinson, CEO , The Basement Project said: “We are delighted to have been awarded such a significant amount because we know that competition is fierce for funding.

“The grant will ensure we can continue to operate our drop-in service at Hanover House in Bromsgrove, maintain our outreach visits across Worcestershire communities and our food bank service.

“Our services are funded by a collective of generous local funding support which comes from individuals, businesses and organisations, alongside assistance from the District and County Council and a main funder (sponsor).

“We are delighted that The National Lottery Community Fund wanted to work alongside our local funders to ensure we make a difference and create those foundations of independence for young people.”

Nicola Thurbon, senior head of regional funding (Midlands),The National Lottery Community Fund, said: “The Basement Project provides vital support to young people at risk of becoming homeless or who are homeless in Worcestershire, helping them to access support services and work towards new goals. Thanks to National Lottery players, we are proud to have awarded funding to the organisation so they can continue their important work to help young people to overcome challenges.”
