Bromsgrove's Avoncroft Museum reveals when it is reopening to the public

BROMSGROVE’S Avoncroft Museum has announced it will be reopening for the May Day bank holiday weekend.

Visitors will be welcomed back earlier than expected.

Although the traditional May Day celebration will not be able to happen this year, staff and trustees of the museum have decided to mark the important event by reopening the grounds to the public from 10am to 5pm between May 1 and 3.

It will then be open for the same times every weekend in May after that.

Despite the buildings remaining closed the 19 acres of orchard, fields, meadows, picnic areas and playgrounds will provide a large amount of outdoor space for visitors to explore. They have been lovingly prepared for opening by its volunteers.

The venue is also reopening its tea rooms with a takeaway offer on food, drinks and ice cream.

To ensure visitors to Avoncroft remain safe and have an enjoyable day, numbers on the site will be limited and tickets for half-hour arrival times will need to be purchased in advance on the website as they will not be available on the day.

Zoe Willems, Director, said: “We have a very small staff team at the moment, and a positive army of volunteers and supporters who are helping us to get ready to open to the public.

“We think it’s more important to be open than to be perfect, so we hope visitors will come and enjoy the 19 acres of open space and understand that we are still a work in progress in some areas.

“As a further thank you to everyone for their support during these difficult times, we’ll only be charging £5 per ticket until the late May bank holiday.”

Nick Sturgess, Deputy Director, said: “Everyone has fond memories of our traditional May Day celebrations.

“Unfortunately due to restrictions we won’t be able to put these on this year – but it’s a good symbolic weekend to celebrate opening up to the public once more.

“We hope people of Bromsgrove will make the most of the safe, open air space and the re-opening offer of £5 tickets for all – and then visit again in summer when limited activities and events will resume and buildings will be open again.”

Avoncroft Museum reopens fully to the public on weekends and Wednesdays from the May 29.

Advanced booking is required for all bookings from the museums website www.avoncroft.org.uk. For more information about Avoncroft Museum visit www.avoncroft.org.uk. or email [email protected]
