A BROMSGROVE man who took on a challenge to walk the Hadrian’s Wall Path has now raised more than £3,000 for the Alzheimer’s Society.

Andy Frizzell has now closed his fund-raising page after donations of £2,500 and £508 was generated through gift aid.

He began his trek at Segadunum Roman Fort in Wallsend, Tyne and Wear, on April 30 and completed it in seven days.

He walked an average of 12 miles-a-day, although some were shorter when there was more to see and longer at 15 or 16 during the less interesting sections.

Andy chose the charity as his mum, who died in 2010, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and dementia and his sister, diagnosed with vascular dementia, is currently in care because of the condition.

Andy said: “I’m absolutely astonished at the support I’ve had from so many people.

“The support I got from the Hop Pole Inn Bromsgrove was brilliant, not only with a substantial cash donation but a fund-raiser event with live music and an auction that raised over £200 (included in the grand total).

“This amount of money is extraordinary given the financial situation we’re in at the moment.”

He also thanked the Standard for our coverage of the challenge.
