IT WAS the end of an era for a Bromsgrove volunteer this week as she completed her last ever shift supporting people with sight loss, marking the end of her 30 year stint.
83-year-old Jess Greenough has volunteered with Bromsgrove’s branch of Sight Concern Worcestershire for three decades and rounded off her impressive efforts with a meeting of the charity’s Bromsgrove support group.
During her last shift with Sight Concern’s Bromsgrove Connections, she visited the town’s Chandler Court Care Home on Recreation Road on Tuesday (February 4). She was rewarded with a presentation hosted by the charity’s head of operations.
The organisation’s CEO, Anne Eyre, said: “Jess has been an integral part of our Sight Concern community and we are so very grateful for her hard work and years of service here.
“She has been the heartbeat within the volunteer group since 1995, in addition to her work with the charity at it’s base at The Bradbury Centre in Worcester.
“We have been very fortunate that she chose to volunteer with us.”
Jess was part of a team of over 200 volunteers within Sight Concern Worcestershire who support over 2,700 blind and partially sighted clients across the county.
The charity groups offer information, advice, guidance and peer to peer experiences for anyone living with sight loss in the county.
Tony Fisher, Sight Concern’s Community Connector for North Worcestershire said: “Our groups are a supportive, friendly get together where firm friendships are formed, activities happen and information is given too.”
Tony said his clients are thrilled to be hosted at Chandler Court, and commented on how welcoming the new hosts have been. The group has since grown to almost 30 members.
Bromsgrove Connections meetings are held on the first Tuesday of every month.
