A BRAVE 11-year-old girl from Bromsgrove has decided to shave her head in memory of her nan who passed away from cervical cancer two years ago.

Abby Wilkes’ courageous act will take place at the Harvester in Studley today and will raise money for Macmillian Cancer Support Group.

The ‘Brave the Shave’ event has been set up by Redditch Charity Bikers with the help of Abby’s father, Rob Wilkes, who is a member of the biker group.

Abby, who initially came up with the idea by herself, is actually really excited to have her head shaved.

Her mum Barbara Wilkes said: “She’s not nervous about the day at all.

“She was extremely close to her nan and that’s probably what’s keeping her motivated.

“Her hair is just above her shoulders now so it’s not exactly short.

“It’s a huge deal for a young, little girl but she is happy to do it.”

A top hairdresser from a well-known high street company has been drafted in to do the shave.

And to help raise even more funds, the founding member of Redditch Charity Bikers, Allen Morris, will also have his hair shaved off.

Mrs Wilkes added: “We are absolutely bursting with pride.”
