A WOMEN’S rugby player from Bromsgrove is calling on the community for funding to help her represent Jamaica next month.
Danielle Jordan-Taft, who has also represented England’s netball team previously needs support for her self-funded spot in the Caribbean nation’s large-sided rugby games.
The funds will cover flights, accommodation, and essential expenses to make the tour at the end of May possible.
She said: “Playing for my country is a huge honour, something I take immense pride in every time I put on the shirt.”
Over the last three years, she has personally funded her sporting tours but is finding it increasingly difficult to keep up with the financial strain of competing.
Jamaica 15s women’s rugby team is set to compete in the Rugby Americas North (RAN) Women’s XVs Championship against Mexico on May 24 and Trinidad & Tobago on May 31.
The championship is the premier rugby union competition for women’s national teams in North America and the Caribbean.
The games serve as the regional qualifier for the Women’s Rugby World Cup (WRWC) and the newly established WXV competition.
At the time we went to press, Danielle had raised nearly £1,300 towards her goal of £1,800. She added: “I know this is a lot of money, and I’m truly grateful for any support.
“I’m passionate about helping grow women’s rugby and the future of Jamaica rugby, and I already do my fair share of voluntary work to support this cause.
“Any donation, big or small, is deeply appreciated and never taken for granted.
“With your support, I can keep representing my country with pride and continue pushing boundaries for women’s rugby, let’s make this dream a reality, together.”
