Bromsgrove Walking Sports Centre chooses Primrose Hospice as its 2023 Charity of the Year

BROMSGROVE’S Walking Sports Centre is set to partner the Primrose Hospice and have it as its Charity of the Year for 2023.

This is a first for the hub and a welcome one for the Walking Sports Centre owner Alan Gormley.

He said: “Over the past two years we have supported different charities with very diverse needs.

“We helped the people of Ukraine with money for front line support and essential goods, have provided clothing for the homeless, donated food to foodbanks and hosted events for lonely and isolated people.

“We decided to focus our efforts locally this year and with one partner.

“Our centre’s participants were asked which charities they would like to support and Primrose Hospice was their favourite choice.”

Alan contacted Lucy Perkins at Primrose and they very quickly agreed to work together.

The first joint event will be a charity quiz on April 1 which is open to everyone and will see all the profits go to the Primrose.

Lucy Perkins from Primrose Hospice “We are really looking forward to working alongside Bromsgrove Walking Sports Centre throughout 2023.

“We are delighted for the support of the group, and that we were nominated as their chosen charity to form a partnership with this year .

“Charity partnerships are so important to Primrose Hospice, they not only allow us to strengthen our relationship with the community – we can also achieve great results when organisations work together.

“Alan has invited us along to experience the Sport Centre which we are thoroughly looking forward to.”

She thanked Alan and the centre and wished it great success with the quiz night on April 1.

Walking Rounders set to get under way

Earlier this month we reported how Bromsgrove was set to be the first place in the world to host Walking Rounders.

The first session is set to take place at 10.30am tomorrow (Monday, Februrary 27) at Bromsgrove Hockey, Cricket and Tennis Club Astroturf.

Alan added: “The centre is heading for a very exciting year with Walking Rounders being added to our other Walking sport offerings – cricket, football, hockey, netball and rugby – and we will be holding more events with Primrose Hospice as the year progresses.”
