Bromsgrove urged to get creative for Queens Baton Relay

Bromsgrove Editorial 9th Jul, 2022   0

BROMSGROVE District Council is encouraging residents to get creative to celebrate the Birmingham 2022 Queen’s Baton Relay.

The relay will be running into Sanders Park on July 23 and the council has partnered with Bromsgrove Festival to encourage communities to create art on the theme of celebration, community, and the Commonwealth Games.

People can choose which art form they would like to exhibit – from paintings to poetry and music.

Residents will be asked to share their art in and outside their homes in their local community or on social media.

People are encouraged to paint rocks which will be displayed at Sanders Park’s peace garden leading up to the event and on the day.

Those attending the relay at Sanders Park are being asked to dress in their chosen Commonwealth colours and to bring flags along.

The Baton Relay event will take place around the Sanders Park Jubilee Bandstand at around 9am on July 23, with a celebratory event lasting until 11am.

It will showcase local music, sports and creative clubs and will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Jubilee bandstand.

The council’s portfolio holder for leisure and cultural services, Coun Michael Thompson said: “The Queen’s Baton Relay is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

“It not only celebrates the sporting element of the games themselves but also the communities, people, cultures, and places in the Commonwealth, so it is fantastic that we are reflecting this and encouraging people to celebrate through art and community projects, as well as sport.”
