Bromsgrove Swimming Club launches crowdfunding campaign to secure its future

Tristan Harris 7th Jun, 2021 Updated: 7th Jun, 2021

A CROWDFUNDING campaign has been launched today to help secure the future of Bromsgrove Swimming Club.

Like many, the club has had a tough time during the Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdowns and has lost 12 months of recruiting new members and fund-raising events, including its annual ‘meet’.

Treasurer Charlotte Bower said: “We are a not for profit organisation – all income we generate goes towards our costs – Covid restrictions have resulted in reduced income from membership fees and limited capacity in the water.

“This in turn means that we cannot cover all our costs in the short-term if we keep the fees within acceptable levels.”

The club has come up with an exciting way to raise some much-needed funds to see them through this difficult time and is launching a crowdfunding event – ‘Bromsgrove Swimming Club making it to 56 years’ – lasting 28 days.

Matt Lowe, the club’s head coach, said: “Since we were founded in 1966 we have helped thousands of local children learn to swim and develop their enthusiasm for swimming – we are all passionate about our sport but the key for us is that swimming is more than a sport, it is a crucial life skill and can help children to enjoy water safely.”

Charlotte added: “We really appreciate any support that our local community can provide us and our crowdfunding campaign means that people can help us while getting the chance to either win, bid for or buy some great rewards.

“We have a lot of exciting items on offer including a family day at Cadbury World and a weeks membership for Bromsgrove Sports and Leisure Centre.”

People are urged to visit crowdfunder.co.uk/bsc-56 from today to support the local swimming club, get lucky on one of the club’s raffle prizes or to bag themselves a bargain in an auction.
