A STUDENT from Aston Fields Middle School has won £10,000 for the school for his eye-catching poster persuading the public to become more sustainable.

Cameron was one of over 200 students from 24 schools across the Midlands to enter the challenge, which was run by E.ON.

The cash was a portion of £17,500 awarded to four Midlands schools to be spent on a sustainability initiative.

Cameron’s design was deemed the overall winner by experts from the sustainability and creative sectors, with marks awarded for the innovation and originality of the posters.

His winning poster explored the idea of recycling materials for new housing, with judges praising it for its simple yet original concept.

Cameron said he has thought about using some of the money to buy hydroponic kits so plants in his school can be grown more sustainably.

In total, 22 finalists had their artwork promoted by E.ON on digital advertising boards in Birmingham City Centre during the Commonwealth Games.

E.ON’s head of brand and marketing Scott Sommerville said: “It’s abundantly clear so often that most children are streets ahead of most adults in showing the level of passion and enthusiasm we need to fight the climate crisis, so we wanted to run a challenge that let them put forward their thoughts and creative suggestions for how we can help make our future more sustainable.

“We hope to have inspired others by celebrating the ideas of children from across the Midlands and displaying these posters so proudly during Birmingham 2022.”
