BROMSGROVE Sporting have paid tribute to their former player Cody Fisher on the first anniversary of his fatal stabbing.

The 23-year-old, who was also a much-loved sports coach at Woodrow First School in Redditch, was fatally injured at The Crane nightclub in Digbeth, Birmingham, on Boxing Day in 2022.

In the year since, his loved ones have petitioned for Cody’s Law, which seeks to make it a legal requirement to have metal detectors and bleed kits at clubs and events.

A petition, which was backed by Sporting, gained over 25,000 signatures and was presented to Parliament.

The Rouslers paid tribute to Fisher on the first anniversary of his death with a minute’s applause ahead of their game with Stourbridge – a team the 23-year-old had also played for.

Bromsgrove Sporting vice-chairman, Richard Boorn, said: “Cody will never be forgotten by those who knew him and by all of his former clubs.

“It is important that we honour the memory of Cody as a mark of respect, for a friend and team member of both sides.

“We wanted to symbolise our love and support for his friends and family on this extremely difficult anniversary.”
