BROMSGROVE Sporting legend John Pykett took part in a 50kilometre trail run in Australia on Saturday, September 17 in memory of Tom Rankin.

He completed the ‘Surf Coast century’ run with his friend in 5 hours 33 minutes to raise funds for mental health charity Beyond Blue.

And he has raised $2380 so far, the equivalent of around £1424.

John first met Tom when they were playing for Sporting and became good friends.

Rankin died aged 26 in March having played for the club in a league match for Redditch United the day before.

John said: “Tom and I shared a lot of good memories which I will treasure forever.

“Tom was known for being an avid runner and having incredible fitness levels, so please show your love and support to help us ‘Run for Rankin’.

“Beyond Blue is an organisation that provides support to people who are struggling.

“We want to raise as much money as possible to help people get through their low moments & challenging periods.”
