Bromsgrove Sporting FC volunteer set for fundraising trek

A VOLUNTEER at Bromsgrove Sporting Football Club is set to walk 22 miles in fancy dress to raise cash for men’s mental health.

Richard Holiday will trudge from Stratford Town FC to Bromsgrove Sporting FC, a total of 22 miles, dressed as Tigger to raise funds for ANDYSMANCLUB – a leading charity for men’s mental health.

He said: “As a Bromsgrove Sporting fan, I can’t wait to do this challenge. The support from both clubs has been absolutely amazing.

“I’m doing this challenge on my own and for a charity that means so much to me.”

The fundraiser set a goal to raise just £100. So far, at the time we went to press, Richard has tripled his goal and raised £330 and counting.

Richard added: “It is my ambition to do a further 10 walks and walk club to club, incorporating all 22 clubs in the Southern League Premier Division Central league this season.”

The volunteer hopes to continue raising funds for the men’s mental health charity which was set up in memory of Andrew Roberts, a man who took his own life aged 23 in early 2016.

Andy’s family had no inkling he was suffering or struggling and as a result looked deeper into male suicide and men’s mental health.

They soon discovered male suicide is the biggest killer of men under 54, with male mental health surrounded by well-ingrained cultural stigma in the UK.

As a suicide prevention charity, groups are set up for men aged 18 and over to speak openly about their mental health in a judgement free, non-clinical environment.

Groups now operate nationwide and are completely volunteer-led, with all group facilitators having first interacted with ANDYSMANCLUB when they came through the door as a service user.
