Bromsgrove Sporting consortium announce shock departure from club

THE consortium which took over at Bromsgrove Sporting less than three months ago have shockingly left the club with immediate effect.

The Standard understands Brian Seymour-Smith, Craig Cotterill and Paul Molesworth have resigned from the board of directors and departed the club.

Seymour-Smith only replaced Mike Burke as the club’s chairman in August but has opted to leave Sporting after just over two-and-a-half months in charge at the Victoria Ground.

Seymour-Smith, Cotterill and Molesworth released the following statement to BBC Hereford and Worcester: “It is with regret and a heavy heart that we, as a consortium, have decided to stand down as directors with immediate effect.

“During our spell at the club we made strenuous efforts to work with the extended board of 12 members to create a vision which we believed offered a long-term future for the club.

“From day one, as a team, we gave 100 per cent, however, it was clear there were some board members who didn’t feel our direction and ambition was the direction they wanted the club to go.

“And they were unable to offer 100 per cent support in return, we therefore respect their views and move on.

“Our biggest regret is not having the time to meet the expectations of the club’s fabulous supporters, not only had we quickly established strong, firm relationships, but we were also working very closely with the supporters’ trust to bring about a more democratic way forward for supporter involvement.

“We sincerely hope this historical problem is finally resolved with the board and we thank them for their fantastic support and hard work.

“We wish the club all the best for the rest of the season and for the future.”

The consortium spoke of their ambition to improve facilities at the Victoria Ground and take the club into the National League North in an exclusive interview with the Standard following their takeover.

And the news appears to have come as a surprise to Sporting who are set to hold an emergency board meeting in the coming days.

Bromsgrove Sporting released the following statement: “This came as a complete surprise to the remaining directors who will be convening a board meeting as soon as possible, after which a further announcement will be made from the club.”
