RESIDENTS of a Bromsgrove care home have been sharing employment advice with local school students as part of National Careers Week.
Pupils from Bromsgrove School were invited into Care UK’s Chandler Court to listen to a wealth of careers advice from residents with experience in many different roles and industries from policing to healthcare.
Bill Spencer, 92-year-old resident from Chandler Court advised children to ‘have an interest in their career’ in order to progress and said: “Talking with the children brought back good memories – I enjoyed my career, in particular my own carpet business as I like meeting new people.”
Vongai Mushinga, Home Manager at Chandler Court, added: “Inter-generational activities are a huge part of life here at Chandler Court, and it was fantastic to be joined by schoolchildren to discuss the career advice that residents had to share from their own experience.
“Inter-generational relationships can be incredibly fulfilling, as they give younger and older generations a chance to learn from one another. These connections can be especially helpful for older people as they can provide a sense of purpose and spark discussions about their lives.
“We’d like to say a huge thanks to pupils from Bromsgrove School for coming along and participating – we look forward to welcoming everyone into the home again very soon.”
National Careers Week, which took place from March 6-11, is a week long celebration of careers advice and free resources in education across the UK. Their aim is to support young people in developing awareness and passion for future career opportunities and employment.
