BROMSGROVE School has been at the forefront of a trial with Nationwide Building Society, providing sessions to Upper Fourth students (Year 10) on Finance and Financial Awareness.
It was the brainchild of Miss Farrell, who runs Life Skills at the School.
Commencing two years ago, these sessions have grown in popularity and, as a result, the programme has now been rolled out nationally by Nationwide.
Miss Farrell said: “Money and financial awareness is important at any age, but young people need to be aware of the basics, such as bank accounts, savings, the implications of borrowing, debt, and being safe with online shopping and transactions.
“Many students of this age begin to start getting bank accounts, growing independence and maturity make this the perfect moment to consider broader aspects of money – it is all more tangible especially as they get closer to university and the world of work.”
The sessions grow pupils’ confidence and enable them to understand the difference between needs versus wants.
