Bromsgrove, Rubery and Frankley litter pickers join in the ‘Great British Spring Clean’

LITTER pickers from Bromsgrove, Rubery and Frankley have been doing their bit for Keep Britain Tidy’s ‘Great British Spring Clean’ this week.

The national annual campaign started on March 17 and lasts until April 2.

And local groups such as the Rubery Wombles, Frankley Litter Pickers and Keep Bromsgrove Beautiful have been urging people to get out and about to make a difference.

Keep Bromsgrove Beautiful

In the first six days of the campaign, Keep Bromsgrove Beautiful saw 43 people collect over 28 bags of litter in 25 hours.

The group will be running more group picks over the next few weekends and has encouraged others to join them.

Keep Bromsgrove Beautiful founder Sarah O’Conor, who is also a Keep Britain Tidy #LitterHeroes Ambassador, set up the group five years ago and it is still going strong.

She said: “We used to do a lot more group litter picks before the Covid years, but now there are a lot more of us litter picking solo, and we’re slowly starting to organise group picks again.

“Sadly, there is still so much litter out there.

“What we need is massive behaviour change, and one way we can do that is leading by example and hopefully people will stop dropping litter and start taking pride in the beautiful place we call home.”

Those wanting to set up their own group pick can borrow equipment from Keep Bromsgrove Beautiful.

Rubery Wombles and Rednal Litter Busters

This year’s ‘B45 Great British Spring Clean’ efforts are well under way with these two groups.

Already tidied have been Callowbridge Road and New Road in Rubery, Egghill Lane, in Frankley, Edgewood Road and surrounding areas in Rednal and behind Morrisons on the Great Park.

Tomorrow (Saturday), rubbish will be removed from the Bugle pub and Wareham Road in Frankley and on Sunday, March 26, the litterpick will take place in Cofton Park.

Bringing down the curtain on this year’s efforts will be New Inns Lane and Gannow Green Lane on Tuesday, March 28, Cockhill Lane and Deelands Road on Thursday, March 30, and next Saturday, April 1, the last one will be at St Chad’s Park.

All collections start at 10am with further litterpicks being organised.
