Bromsgrove Rovers appeal to help replace changing rooms

BROMSGROVE Rovers AFC have appealed for help as the club looks to raise £20,000 to replace the changing facilities at Stoke Prior Sports and Social Club, which have fallen into a state of disrepair.

The football club recently secured a long-term lease at the venue and is looking to expand to enable more people across Bromsgrove to get involved in the beautiful game.

The Rovers were formed as an under-13s team in 2021 and now have an adult team and five grassroots sides, with double the number of current squads signed up to represent the side for the 2023/24 campaign.

Most of the club’s youth squads, except for the under 11s and under 12s, will be moving toStoke Prior Sports and Social Club for next season, with the adult team playing their matches at South Bromsgrove High School.

However, the current state of the changing rooms means they currently cannot be used by the Rovers or the social club for matches, training or events.

Club management is currently looking into ways to replace the facilities to make them accessible for their teams as well as suitable for use by the social club.

A JustGiving page has been set up to raise cash for the work to be conducted, with the club raising £295 so far.

Club chair Bryn Davies said: “It’s an exciting time for the club as we are expanding and are able to help many more local young people play the sport – we’re even looking into starting disability football teams.

“However, the situation with the current changing rooms is really bad and our children simply cannot use them.

“Now we’ve got this secure base at the social club it will only help the wider community, and the social club will get a new changing room which they’ve been looking at getting funding for anyway so we’re helping each other.

“The social club will be able to use the facilities for music events and other activities, so we really see this as helping the Stoke Prior area – we want this to be about more than football.”
