Bromsgrove roads policing team benefits from new speeding technology

POLICING teams across Worcestershire are cracking down on speeding with the new TruCamII enforcement cameras.

Officers were out in Bromsgrove on Monday with the new equipment, addressing residents’ concerns regarding speeding in Catshill and Fairfield.

TruCamII cameras can be used as either handheld devices by officers or on a Tripod, allowing a greater deal of flexibility on sites where they can be used.

The equipment has the ability to capture and process offences much quicker than older devices and produces higher quality, clearer pictures of offending vehicles and therefore ensures a more efficient use of officers’ time and a more effective court process.

Redditch and Bromsgrove Safer Neighbourhood Inspector Richard Field said: “It’s great that we can introduce these new cameras across Redditch and Bromsgrove and they will play an important part in ensuring all our local policing teams across the whole of Worcestershire have the latest technology available in order to tackle speeding.

“There are many families that unfortunately know far too well the devastating consequences speeding and collisions can lead to.

“Reducing the number of people killed or seriously injured on our roads is our priority and reducing the speed people travel is a key part of this.

“These cameras use the latest technology and will allow us to address speeding in areas of greatest concern, so we welcome their introduction.”

Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion said: “It’s a sad fact that too many people are being killed or seriously injured on our roads, that’s why there is a focus on reducing the harm caused at the heart of my Safer Communities Plan.

“I speak regularly to residents in Worcestershire who are rightly concerned about speeding and anti-social driving in their community.

“That’s why I have funded the latest camera equipment to support the local policing team in improving road safety by carrying out effective and efficient enforcement activity.”
