THE BROMSGROVE Repair Cafe stalwarts – ‘the early birds’ – got together to celebrate the venture’s second anniversary.
It took place on March 2 – the latest repair cafe – where 41 people brought 63 items – 41 were successfully repaired and 13 will be finished on April 6.
Matt, who repairs record players, said: “I’m excited to have given the Repair Cafe its own dedicated turntable man for a whole year.”
Chris’s job as ‘runner’ is to get visitors seen in order of arrival for that type of repair.
He said: “Household items need safety PAT tests before and after repair which delays proceedings.
“The cafe repairs any portable item except microwaves, gold jewellery, valve-radios or pre-1980 vintage home entertainment equipment.”
A woman who brought in a coffee-maker added: “They were like electronic wizards – it required PCB soldering.”
Repair Cafes started up in Holland, where coffee-makers are the most popular portable household item for repair.
The Bromsgrove Repair Cafe takes place at All Saints Hall, Burcot Lane, between 2pm and 5pm on the first Saturday of each month.
Charford’s St Andrew’s Hall sees a return visit on Saturday May 4, so there is no Repair Cafe in All Saints in May.
To check if items are repairable, message the team through: facebook.com/repaircafebromsgrove or email [email protected] – alternatively, call 07818 045881 the week before.
