WORK began this week on a major £350,000 revamp of The New Inn, Bournheath, which will bring 15 new jobs and restore the country pub to its former glory, writes Jonah Broom.
The venue has been closed since the start of the year and will reopen in time for the early May bank holiday.
As part of the refurbishment the original features will be retained, including the characteristic wooden beams and open fires.
Changes will include a new lobby and the interior will be opened up to make it more spacious with an open plan lounge and bar and more seating.
New licensees Chad Hudson and Sarah Price also own the Loyal Lodge in Halesowen and the pair are hoping to introduce events which have proved popular at their first pub, including a regular quiz, summer barbecues and bank holiday charity fund-raisers.
Chad said: “We could immediately see The New Inn had great potential with investment.
“We’re excited by the refurbishment, and are looking forward to getting to know the community.
“My brother is moving to the pub and will be managing it on a day-to-day basis, so it really is a family affair.”
The pub is operated by Star Pubs and Bars on behalf of Heineken.
The company’s regional operations director Caren Geering said: “Chad and Sarah are experienced operators who know the area well.
“They’ve done a great job turning around the Loyal Lodge.”
