A KEEN Bromsgrove photographer was given the perfect picture opportunity when six Waxwings turned up in her garden.
Sarah Rea, who lives in Stoke Prior, was delighted when she saw the flock arrive on Monday (January 16).
She said: “Our garden backs on to the farm fields by Upton Warren nature reserve but they never usually make it over here, we get plenty of blackbirds, blue tits, great tits and the odd sparrow hawk, but this was by far the best we’ve ever had and the rarest.”
Sarah added she was shocked when she saw them as they did not usually come this far inland.
According to the RSPB, Waxings arrive from Scandanavia between October and March and are usually seen on the east coast from Scotland to East Anglia, but have been known to venture inland in the search of food.
“I had been told some had been seen in Kidderminster and Birmingham but never thought I’d look out my window and see one here – let alone six.
“They kept coming and going throughout the day.”
Sarah said she got hooked on photography after taking it up as a hobby a two or three years ago and usually captures nature, wildlife and landscape scenes.
