Bromsgrove orchestra baffled as concert banners vanish

BROMSGROVE’S Orchestra of St John is trying to get to the bottom of a mystery which has seen two banners advertising their latest concert removed and members do not know where they have got to.

The three metre-long banners were put up, with the permission of the landowner, to advertise the concert taking place next Saturday, April 28, at St John’s Church.

But when they arrived on Sunday evening for the rehearsal they noticed the banners had vanished.

One banner was at the bottom on Adams Hill, the path leading from Kidderminster Road to the church, and the second was on the railings opposite Thomas Horton’s offices on Stratford Road.

Orchestra Manager Alastair Moseley said “We are puzzled and upset by the disappearance of the banners.

“Our orchestra is a community group who perform for the benefit of the town and we use large banners to let the people of Bromsgrove know when our concerts are taking place.

“We had full permission to put up the banners, and we can’t think why anyone would want to rip them down.”

“The members of the Orchestra are unpaid musicians and the Orchestra survives through concert ticket sales.

“These banners are not cheap, and to replace them will be a strain on the Orchestra’s funds.”

The banners were advertising the concert where the Orchestra will perform Beethoven’s 9th Symphony ‘The Choral’ and Elgar’s Violin Concerto.

The performance of Beethoven’s Choral Symphony marks the completion of a cycle of all nine symphonies, a remarkable achievement for an amateur orchestra.

The performance of the Elgar Violin Concerto by Orchestra leader Charlotte Moseley celebrates her huge achievement in music culminating in her receiving a Masters Degree with Distinction from the Royal Academy of Music in 2017 and being awarded the coveted Royal Academy Diploma for her outstanding final recital.

Tickets are £12 and available in advance from Decanter Spirits in Bromsgrove High Street or online at www.osjbromsgrove.org
