KEY community issues were the centre of discussion when Bromsgrove MP Bradley Thomas sat down to talk to a former district councillor at a local care home.

The local MP was delighted to meet residents at Cofton Park Manor Care Home, including former councillor Dave McGrath, who served on Bromsgrove District Council for 20 years.

Mr Thomas said: “It’s great to come here and talk to the residents about the issues that matter to them.

“It was also wonderful to meet Dave, who has given so much service to the local community.”

Dave served as a Labour councillor on Bromsgrove District Council before setting up the Bromsgrove Independent Group in the early 1990s and then becoming an Independent.

He was elected after serving as a medic in the Gulf War. In all, the committed community stalwart has served more than 20 years as a councillor.

The Cofton Park Manor resident also served on several committees over the years, chairing the Community Health Councils in both Bromsgrove and Redditch, as well as being a member of the local planning committee.

Father of two, Dave said: “I got to know a lot of people and was able to help them out over the years with a whole range of issues from housing to schools.”

Dave was also known to sit at the local supermarket on Rubery High Street on Saturday mornings, making himself available to support local residents.

The busy councillor was also key in raising the money to set up the Rubery Leisure Centre on Holywell Lane, as well as organising the Rubery Half Marathon.

Today, Dave enjoys relaxing, chatting to his new friends and enjoying the entertainment at the Lickey Road home.
