BROMSGROVE MP and Home Secretary Sajid Javid has promised to put ‘20,000 more police officers on the street’ if he becomes the next Prime Minister.
Mr Javid made the announcement earlier today on his Twitter account.
He said: “I want to see 20,000 more bobbies on the beat keeping our streets safe.
“As Home Secretary I’ve been making the case for more police for more than a year.
“But as Prime Minister, I would put in the money to make sure this happens. It’s what everyone wants.”
Mr Javid has pledged to spend £1billion in the next three years to end the ‘culture of impunity’ enjoyed by criminals.
The current Home Secretary is one of 11 MPs hoping to replace current Prime Minster Theresa May.
Cabinet colleagues Michael Gove, Jeremy Hunt and Matt Hancock are also vying for the position.
Former foreign secretary Boris Johnson is currently the bookies’ favourite to be in 10 Downing Street by the end of July.
