BROMSGROVE MP Sir Sajid Javid has made what some may construe as ‘surprising’ comments about the Labour leader and potential new government.

The former Chancellor and Home Secretary was speaking on a video released on ‘The Rest is Politics’ podcast.

Whilst chatting he said he thought a lot of people had not yet made up their mind on who they were going to vote for at the general election.

Then, after saying the Conservatives needed to continue working hard, he said: “Keir Starmer is not Jeremy Corbyn – he’s nothing like him.

“I happen to think Sir Keir Starmer is a decent guy.

“And if happen to wake up the day after the election and Keir Starmer is standing outside 10 Downing Street, I am not going to be frightened.

“I would have been if Jeremy Corbyn had.”

Then afterwards he said: “But he’s also not Tony Blair.”

In response to the question: “But Rishi Sunak is not Margaret Thatcher either,” the Bromsgrove MP said: “He is not Tony Blair, there’s no love on the doorstep for him and he’s got his work cut out.”

The comments are likely to raise a few eyebrows among his Conservative colleagues and plenty of responses were yielded on the post on X which was promoting the podcast episode soon to be released. Click below to watch the interview.

Sir Sajid Javid, knighted earlier this year, announced last year he would not be standing again at the next general election. Bradley Thomas, the former leader of Wychavon District Council, will be the Conservative Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Bromsgrove.

Labour have built up a considerable lead in the opinion polls with some pundits predicting – if it stayed the same and people voted at the next general election as they have said they would in those surveys – that Sir Keir Starmer could enjoy a similar landslide to Tony Blair’s in 1997.
