Bromsgrove MP backs parliamentary motion to 'protect single-sex spaces'

A PARLIAMENTARY motion calling for the upholding of biological sex-based protections in single-sex spaces has been signed by Bromsgrove’s MP.

The motion follows a recent UK Supreme Court ruling which clarified the terms ‘man’, ‘woman’ and ‘sex’ in the Equality Act 2010 refer to biological sex.

The Early Day Motion, signed by Bradley Thomas MP, calls for the urgent clarification in ensuring the integrity of single-sex spaces and services, including changing rooms, hospital wards, prisons, refuges, toilets, and sports in order to safeguard the dignity, privacy, and safety of women and girls.

The motion goes on to call on all relevant stakeholders to uphold and enforce the maintenance of single-sex spaces based on biological sex to protect the rights and well-being of women and girls across the United Kingdom.

Mr Thomas said: “The Supreme Court’s ruling was a victory for commonsense, and now Government must do the important work of protecting single-sex spaces and upholding the rights and well-being of women and girls across our country.

“I’ve signed this motion to put pressure on the Government to urgently get on with the job of publishing clear updated guidance to ensure single-sex spaces are protected.”
