ON THE 80th anniversary of D-Day, the town of Bromsgrove paused to honour the brave souls who fought and fell during the historic D-Day landings of June 6, 1944.

The ceremony, held at the Bromsgrove War Memorial, was led by Reverend Khan, drawing a crowd of local residents and veterans alike.

The service began with a heartfelt welcome from Reverend Khan, who emphasised the importance of remembering the sacrifices made 80 years ago.

“It was really important to remember the fact there was a day when all the nations came together to defeat oppression, and to remember the sacrifice of those who were willing to give their lives from so many different nations.

“I am always humbled by the people of Bromsgrove who turn up to pay their respects and to remember,” Said Reverend Khan.

The ceremony included the laying of wreaths by local officials and veterans, as well as raising the D Day flag followed by a minute of silence.

Reverend Khan concluded the service with a prayer for peace and a joint song of the national anthem, urging attendees to carry forward the lessons of D-Day in their hearts.

“Thank you for coming, and always remembering that freedom and justice come at great costs and sacrifice,” added the reverend.

The Bromsgrove British Legion branch said they are thrilled that so many people came out for the ceremony.

Karen May, leader of the district council said: “Today is a really emotional day and a very important day, its important that we don’t forget the sacrifices that so many made to make peace in this world, and we must respect that and also remember it every year.”
